![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ruby’s playful yet sage voice traces the events that brought her from her unspecified African savanna home to the mall where she and Ivan previously lived, and, at last, to the sanctuary. But an unexpected visit awakens memories both welcome and harrowing, including those making her reluctant to celebrate her tusks. Doted on by her adopted elephant “aunts,” and counseled by gorilla Ivan, who lives in a nearby enclosure, and dog Bob, who visits regularly, Ruby is safe and surrounded by loved ones. As the story picks up, Ruby laments that “nobody ever listens to the littlest elephant,” especially concerning her dreaded upcoming Tuskday celebration, a rite of passage that she has no interest in recognizing. Lovable baby elephant Ruby is the delightful narrator of this follow-up to The One and Only Bob, which further chronicles the animal’s difficult journey to the wildlife park and sanctuary where she now lives. ![]() ![]() ![]() The production was loosely adapted from Sgt. The film's soundtrack, released as an accompanying double album, features new versions of songs originally written and performed by The Beatles. George Burns has most of the spoken lines that act to clarify the plot and provide further narration but there are a few other lines throughout the movie (such as many robots). Depicting the loosely constructed story of a band as they wrangle with the music industry and battle evil forces bent on stealing their instruments and corrupting their hometown of Heartland, the film is presented in a form similar to that of a rock opera, with the songs providing "dialogue" to carry the story. Lol, nah. Alas, this is an axiom of the whole business of reviews. And because this thing impacted the whole of my experience, it ends up tainting my opinion of the whole story. There is one thing, one consistent-and, I imagine, very subjective-misstep made throughout (most of) the trilogy, in my opinion. I love so much about these books, and I won't forget to praise all of it, but I'm sure I'll end up pressing a few buttons best left untouched. Well, judging from the near exclusive adoration this series seems to attract, prepare to be disappointed. You love something to pieces and the reviewer points out flaws you hate something but the reviewer can't see how fucking awful it is. What results is the certainty of disappointing people. There's a lot you want to say and a hazy balance to strike between a readable review and a complete one. Trying to capture the essence and quality of a significant work in so few words is. Reviewing art is a difficult practice, often restrictive and incomprehensive. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He was only thirty-six years old, but it seemed he had done everything there was to do in the Western wilds-had been everywhere, met everyone.
